I’m Janet Ardley, a professional dog trainer and dog behaviourist, offering 1 to 1 training, residential training and home boarding for dogs here in the beautiful Lake District National Park, Cumbria.

Over the past 25 years, my love of dogs has introduced me to numerous breeds, both big and small. While many dogs have come to me for basic training, many others have had issues ranging from sheep chasing through to being highly reactive and much more.

But you’re the owner and you’re equally important. Therefore I’ll give you the knowledge and the confidence to continue the training once home, making your dog the best friend you always wanted.

One to One Dog Training

With experience ranging from puppy training to resolving problems of dog aggression and much more, my training and behaviour sessions have proven invaluable to many owners.

Training is always on a “one to one” basis. Just you, me - and your dog!

Home Boarding for Dogs

My home dog boarding is a real “home from home” experience and what I’d like for my own dogs! Lots of fun and fresh air from walks on the local fells before returning to a warm home for dinner and relaxation.

Dogs Who Chase Sheep

I’ll train your dog not to chase sheep – even if he’s already done so.

My pain-free method embeds in your dog’s mind that sheep are a “no no”, meaning that sheep chasing is a thing of the past, replaced by stress free, enjoyable walks!

About Me

Many years ago, the decision to open Cumbria Dog Training came about through rather unusual circumstances.

At the time I was working at a different business where I’d trained numerous dogs and met many lovely people, occasionally someone would suggest I should “go it alone” and open my own business.

Then one day, completely out of the blue, I had a very serious illness which stopped me in my tracks and forced me to take time out. Over the many weeks I needed to recuperate, I reflected on those comments and that’s when Cumbria Dog Training came to mind.

That was many years ago now, since when I’ve worked with countless dogs and their owners and can honestly say, “going it alone” was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
